I have just removed an old Lazilas which you’re welcome to, but it’s rather uv crazed.

    Marine ply

I’m after some 9mm marine ply for interior boat work. Robbins are happy to send it to me but at huge delivery cost which, by the time VAT is applied to the delivery as well, nearly doubles the cost. Has anyone come up with a better solution, bearing in mind that I live on the other side of the...

What boat would you buy to circumnavigate the UK and beyond, with only £5k?

I was going to say “Twister”! In fact I’d even been poking around on the web but there are few, if any, examples for sale in the UK. If I was thinking of circumnavigating the UK solo and I didn’t already have a well found boat then THAT would be a fantastic chance! PS what’s the VAT situation ATM?

    Aging Treadmaster question

It’s the edges lifting that are the problem

    Aging Treadmaster question

Thanks Rappey! Supplementary question; all of the panels have been cut out to an obviously planned shape and size. Is there a cutting pattern available or, better still, a company or person who can do this professionally?

    Aging Treadmaster question

So our Treadmaster is about 40 years old. It’s still intact but looking tired. It’s preformed fitted panels which look tricky to duplicate . One option is something I saw today, a sort of toned down Treadmaster which I haven’t seen before, does anyone have any idea what it is? Is it still...

    A thought….

De-winterizing is an expression I’ve heard used

    Inexperienced crew, yes or no?

Have a conversation with the owner, his wife and his son, pointing out best and worst case scenarios. Even if you decide not to go yourself you will still have to have that conversation so have it early. Likelihood is that they will make a sensible decision

Osmosis treatment; surveyor supervision or not?

So, surveyor yesterday. NOT full blisters; he calls it ‘wicking’. Moisture readings just at the top of amber/low reds. Tap testing produced nothing but solid noises. All good for a 40 year Sadler 32. Problems would be more likely if double hull foam filled. Conclusion; Fill, fair, Gelshield (or...

Osmosis treatment; surveyor supervision or not?

Surveyor on Thursday for the (hopefully) definitive view. Visually there appear to be patches of voids with occasional weepers. The patches are fairly widespread. We shall see, I’ll report back

Osmosis treatment; surveyor supervision or not?

Perhaps I should have mentioned that the blisters are ‘weeping’ through the gelcoat after just the sanding process

Osmosis treatment; surveyor supervision or not?

40 year old boat, antifoul blasted off, hull sanded back to reveal blisters. So the yard manager, who is extremely experienced, feels that the boat needs a ‘peel’ followed by lengthy washing, drying, filling, epoxying etc etc. I trust his judgement and for all of this I will engage appropriate...

    Best epoxy?

An update; So I have areas where the original epoxy (40ish years)never adhered properly (a pox on the lazy twat who didn’t abrade it properly before applying) so that’s been throughly removed exposing the original gel coat. I called International who say DON’T apply Gelshield 200 directly to...

    Best epoxy?

So I’m in the process of ‘re-doing’ the epoxy on the underside. The old stuff has been thoroughly sanded back and power washed and now I’m at the point of deciding which epoxy to use. The choice seems to be between International Gelshield 200 and Hempel High Protect 2, the former is slightly...
