Who in their right mind is buying this

He would probably do ok if a buyer can be found at that price, which is doubtful. Always a dodgy move to go too wild with a one design class. He maybe paid in the region of £150 thousand for the boat, to build it now certainly £300,000 + .

St Peter Port Prices. The good & the bad.

St Helier is great value if you stay a month, couple of years ago I stayed 4 weeks for the price of 1 in Lymington. This year a 10m boat would cost c£570 for the month

    Swinging mooring advice

If you are inside the Vilaine I would not worry too much at all. The buoy and riser help a great deal with snatch and you have no worries about swell and frequent fast moving large traffic. No cyclical tidal flow also helps but I would still use a swivel above the buoy, at least at first...

    Customs clearance France.

I needed a new Preavis form to leave Roscoff once, not sure why. I always seem to end up in the wrong despite my best efforts, there is a species of minor bureaucrat who likes to demonstrate that you are wrong whatever the circumstances, others are charming of course.

    Teak toe rail splitting

The various products branded Cetol are available at about half the price of Woodskin. I did an experiment a few years ago and found little difference in how they performed. However I like the colour of Woodskin much better for teak and will be sticking to that in future. The bonus is you...

    Old dog new tricks

Looks like the plotter is in the cockpit, you will love it esp if singlehanded. I have two, one I use with 12 year old charts and one I keep as backup with 20 year old charts. Fear not as I also have paper charts but they are probably 30 years old  In fact there are few...

What boat would you buy to circumnavigate the UK and beyond, with only £5k?

On the theme of bilge keels, these are good value: https://www.boatsandoutboards.co.uk/boat/1974-hurley-24-70-9183399/ You would want a good reliable engine and not expect to rocket upwind without it. .

    Teak toe rail splitting

I have similar low profile, teak toerail capping. To fix it properly you need to let in new wood, perhaps using a scratch stock or small dia router bit; Then drill out the old plug and refit a new one. It will look poor for a bit and then blend in nicely - if you can find some compatible...

    Radio problem

I tried both, I think not much difference but I was not in focus, will try again + a good look at the wiring. Thanks.

    Radio problem

When I press to speak on my VHF it blanks the screen and does not transmit. The radio receives as normal and I have a feeling the set is not the problem. Could it be power supply or maybe poor aerial connection?

    Most Expensive Visitor moorings 2024

Yes. But the point is that these people are overseeing a public asset where the infrastructure, which belongs to us all, has been gifted to them. I get the distinct impression that some harbourmasters are posturing as if they are managers in the private sector. .

    Most Expensive Visitor moorings 2024

If correct that is bizarre, the moorings off Yarmouth are not in a harbour, just an open roadstead. How far away from Yarmouth do you have to go not to be charged I wonder? Worthing, Boulogne? I would have to run up the F O flags at that one.. The serious point is that these port...

    Switching from marina to mooring

    * The pontoon is excellent, even better if you can store the dinghy out of the water * As above. * Don't get a hard dinghy they clatter the topside and are a general pain in the bottom. * I use a single mooring strop with a very large stainless swivel. The strop would hold a trawler and I...

    Most Expensive Visitor moorings 2024

Still well worth avoiding Langstone Harbour. I see they charge an extra 10 quid if you fail to declare your "visit".
