I recommend OP gets some offshore experience, which I guess they will do if they're planning coastal skipper soon. Try Phoenix YC if you're in the solent area.
For me, they joy of yachting is in going somewhere - exploring and seeing places. So I would think small boat fine for the solent where...
If a mate asked me to deliver a Shrimper for them then I'd have little hesitation doing this trip (fully disclosure: I am an irresponsible and gung-ho arsehole) but a Westerly Centaur would be cheaper, more suitable, safer and more comfortable.
I can't see exactly from the pic, but if they're the ones I'm thinking of then the exact same thing used to be available in red and white for ~£5 a pair from the bicycle section of Decathlon:

This has been in my head since I read it a few hours ago.
When I say that the pinch and zoom is really good you're gonna think "oh my god, this guy uses an Apple Mac" but it does make a big difference - a new plotter is just much easier to use; you can get a view of the harbour in a moment...
Do you mean plastic trunking in general? Any electrical factors.
Cable Trunking | Trunking | Screwfix
Not sure about that specific type with holes in the side though.
It won't work because it doesn't copy the SD card's CID number.
The "SD" in "SD card" stands for "secure digital" - they weren't born yesterday, you know.
I found the marketing very unclear, but the two brands do offer options with comparable coverage - I think Navionics call it "continental" scale.
See post 15, I think, of this previous thread: Navionics vs C-Map for B&G Vulcan.
Good idea.
You can "smart network" Victron Smart Solar controllers with the Smart Shunt - supposedly this makes solar charging more efficient, allowing the controller to account for any voltage loss between it and the batteries.
I believe you need to obtain the SD card's CID number (e.g. using Linux) then find a supplier on AliExpress (or maybe you need to use AliBaba?) that can set the CID of the SD card before they send you.
