Pullout hand held shower

Toilet compartment has a hand held shower with a hose that pulls out between the two mixer taps. When retracted the shower head sits on a washbasin and is used instead of a tap. There is a leak somewhere behind the panelling that flows into the shower tray. I changed the freshwater pump today so the improved pressure at the taps has really aggrevated the leak, one step forward two back as usual. I'm used to domestic type shower hoses that screw on above mixer taps but not hoses that retract so the head can fill a basin. Before I get the plumbing kit out and start removing panels I'd like to know how the set up works. Is the hose simply fitted to the underside of the mixer taps and loops back up or is there something more complicated. It's original 90s stuff so wierd wouldn't be surprising.

Usually its a normal shower hose, with 1/2" female ends and rubber washers. There will be a weight in the middle to make it retract.

Difficult to help without knowing the make/model of your shower, or at least a picture of it.

Mine is similar to this or this - when used as a normal sink the shower head is effectively just resting in a holder; the hose just disappears down a hole.

When you look in the cupboard underneath the connection of water to the shower hose is well obvious.

You're overthinking it. Probably just a loose jubilee clip or something.

Sounds like a commonplace domestic kitchen mixer tap with hose extension.

Commonly the connections are difficult to access as the sinks and wall to which the assembly is attached are not renowned to be generous.

That shower/sink fitting is exactly the same as mine at home which leaked. I found the plastic hose inside the silver flexible metal pipe split and water would leak out.

I had to replace the whole pipe. The screw ends sizes do differ so I tool the split fitting to a plumber to get a compatible fitting

Thanks for your feedback. It looks like I'd better take the full plumbing bag with me. Fortunately there's a DIY shop and a builders merchant nearby so some spares should be available. Fingers crossed for the next trip to the boat.

Not commonplace unfortunately. The 10mm tails on the taps were attached to the 15mm pipework using reinforced pvc tubing and hose clips. Not surprisingly they had become detached. The pvc tube is the same as that used on the water tank so probably original, I can't believe it was this way originally but how and why it changed is a mystery. Hopefully a picture is attached.
