My son was talking to a resident, who was looking to sell up & move back to the UK with his relatives. He says nothing works anymore. Companies are going skint. He cannot rely on flights in & out & the ferry service is in financial difficulty.
I could not help thinking " Out of the frying pan & in to the fire"
Personally, if I make it to st Peter Port I will call it a plus & pay the fee regardless. It is a lovely place to go & sit in the marina watching others come & go.

Not my idea of fun! I anchor in the bay, then move on - St Aubins, St Malo or across to Roscoff.
Paying high fees is ok if you're mob handed and share costs but expensive if solo.

Certainly has been this past couple of days. Arrived with the (80 strong) Morlaix race fleet. The alongside pontoons were rafted so deep that you could pretty much walk across the harbour. Still got a finger berth, mind. Courtesy of those amazing harbour staff in their dories (and Stargazer’s moderate dimensions). Right beneath the band stand, for the Liberation Day celebrations. Which were in full swing. Good times!
Gave up trying to post some pics direct (file size too large, link not accepted from this source etc etc). But here’s my arrival blog, with the pix in it. (The site from which links to pix cannot be accepted!)

Remember all that from Mrs D's and my trip there many years back when we arrived in time for the liberation day celebrations. We were briefly interviewed for radio Guernsey (no particular reason except we were there), watched the morning races for kids along the sea front, visited all the stalls and sideshows in the marina and around and reluctantly listened to all the local pop groups who were given 5 minutes each to play until midnight when the power was chopped and the sound diminished. Remarked next day to the marina staff that it seemed a fun event to be told sourly "the police cells were full of drunks, so they corralled the overflow into a car park, and you, unlike us, weren't having to fish drunks out of the harbour at 4 in the morning". Clearly an event where everyone celebrated to the full.

I enjoyed the ladies rubber dinghy racing. They had to do it across the harbour by paddling with their hands . Turned into a wet T shirt competition. I reckon that the nurses won, but not for being the first boat over the line.:D
They had a plastic duck race where local kids sponsored a decorated plastic duck. Local companies sponsored much larger ones. they were hoisted in a net above the entrance & as the water came over the cill they were dropped in. The winning duck was the one that reached the wall by the road first. Obviously kids tried to catch some ducks for themselves. Grandma was despatched to help my grandson get some with a net. My daughter managed to grab the Barclays one which she was pleased about as she works for them.

There is often something going on there. On one occasion they had a hill-climb starting on the front, with variously swanky cars strutting their stuff.

On another occasion we were with a club group and we were treated to a vin d’honeur, if that’s how it’s spelt, consisting of a champagne reception at Castle Cornet by the mayor. A few days later the Westerly Owners had also arranged one and, being short of numbers, we allowed ourselves to be persuaded to join them for yet another.

The Bad News: Visitor prices up around 25% (£30 last year = £38 this year. On 9.5m).

The Good News:
1. Passeport Escales now accepted. To the benefit of MDL Freedom Berth contract holders and those berthed in French marinas.
2. The early season ‘4 days for the price of three’ deal remains on offer.

I may well come back to U.K. via Guernsey later in the summer but haven’t been able to find the 2024 visitors’ rates online. The Harbour website still links to 2023 rates. Any links to the current rates would be appreciated please. If too horrendous, we’ll give the CI a miss and head straight home.

Sadly, it will be late(ish) season and we have no Passeport Escales nor link to MDL.

The, ever helpful, St Peter Port dock team were having a bit of a technology meltdown, last week. Good (tablet based) system, but with dodgy Wi-Fi. They were tearing their hair out, when the 80 race boats were trying to pay. Didn't pick up a full table of charges. But you could probably pro-rate off my £38 for 9.5m. At the first shot they had me down as 14m, and that seemed to pro rate.....

Thanks, we’re just >12m. It’s poor though, that their current prices are so difficult - or impossible - to find online.

That's £62 a night for me which is better value than a buoy in the Beaulieu £51 and much better than St Helier £85.55. St Helier has to be the most over priced harbour in Brittany/CI's

St Helier is great value if you stay a month, couple of years ago I stayed 4 weeks for the price of 1 in Lymington. This year a 10m boat would cost c£570 for the month
