Info please-
After an epic tip to see a tired old boat in Ipswich, I've got another couple to possibly view, Sunderland and Dartmouth.
The Dart one has to be removed when sold so I'd be looking for a low cost (yes, it's the Dart..) berth for it until the spring.
Bilge keels so...
I'm viewing a low value bilge keel yacht for sale in Ipswich ( I know, I know....)
I'd like people with local knowledge to share the pros and cons of possible berthings for 6/12 months.
Costs/access/friendliness/services etc.
Thank you-
Thank you for looking. Benita has been sold so here is:-
Very presentable 2.4m tender and excellent Mariner 2hp motor with books and took kit/ spare shear and split pins
Very rapid 12v air pump with ordinary pump as well.
Video of engine starting/idling/pumping etc. here- New video

I'm passage planning/pilotage from Preston to Brunswick Dock, Marina.
Both have daytime only limitations on locking (avoiding a £60 fee for Liverpool)
6t long keel 1.5m draft
Plan A- depart Preston early doors after mooring outside the lock the tide before. (Preferred option, I know the river...
My new old stock Mariner 2hp has always run like a sewing machine (odd analogy, sewing machines make a right clatter)
Brought it home, put it on the tank, starts 3/4th pull as usual. About to do some light lubing and finish when I saw no water flow.
So glad I wasn't in a tideway.
Afternoon...
My twin helm boat has a Simrad WP30 wheel pilot outside in the cockpit.
This means I need to make adjustments there.
How do I use the old NMEA it comes with to interface to a laptop or my Garmin 152 via serial/usb at the wheelhouse helm?
Ideally, drop a pin in Memory Map/Open plotter and use...
My twin helm boat has (Paul Rainbow's) wheel pilot outside in the cockpit.
This means I need to make adjustments there.
How do I use the old NMEA it comes with to interface to a laptop or my Garmin 152 via serial at the wheelhouse helm?
Ideally, drop a pin in Memory Map and use GOTO.
No solution...
Very pleased with my Simrad WP30 wheelpilot (thank you, Paul Rainbow..)
I've installled it in the cockpit but would also like to control it (not the manual clutch) from the wheelhouse helm as well.
I would be happy with a 'left' and a 'right' button, but NMEA to steer via laptop or tablet...
Morning all. I gave up last night but here goes.
THe old Garmin 152 gives this-
So I used pin 3 (blue) and pin2 (black) to send out the GPS position info.
On the shiny new CobraF57 I used -
I've assumed '-data in' (green) is the ground though there is a screen ground available too.
So Garmin...
Just been reading about the 9 axis, multifunction, helm from your phone/from home PC(!)/TV remote control on board.
Rudder reference/over current/end stop/clutch all available.
Autopilot Computers
All for $100 with $60 for the power control box to run a dead wheel or tiller pilot
A Raymarine (no...
Just paid for an Ebay item.. (mid afternoon, before wine o clock too!)
My usual free sources for pdf manuals has come up with nought, ditto Navico/Simrad.
Has anyone got a link please?
TIA
Having been all set to shell out for a Raymarine EV100 wheelpilot, I paused for (re)thought after reading here recently that under deck linear rams
were much preferred.
My Beneteau currently has no autohelm, cable operated dual wheels and an above deck emergency tiller position. This all works...
Any link/wisdom as to why junk masts don't seem to need stays? The w/sites just praise or diss them in general terms.
I note that they are keel stepped so have support from the cabin top, even so, I can't get my head round this, surely if a sail is driving a hull at x knots there are forces to...
1979 Beneteau.
Has anyone done this? No sign of any fixings (though there may be under the internal seal, I didn't want to disturb it for no purpose). Is the perspex rabbited or plain section? Glued in? Not replaceable? etc.. etc
..
I've bought a boat and it came with a properly sealed hard cased life raft. Never had one before. I only do coastal sailing.
I have no plans to replace and I think it's too out of date to service.
Question:- Keep onboard as 'better than nothing' or dump as a false safety net?
