Replacing standing rigging, wasn't expecting this and some mast advice.

Mast is off to remove and replace standing rigging on my wee boat. (bradwell 18) The cap shrouds and lowers go through a slot into the mast, (pic 1) then run up inside the mast and loop over something at top of the mast. (bolt or rod probably) I wasn't expecting that! (pic 2) There are no tangs...

Anyone ever tried any of these products for mastgates?

MastGates.com & Electronic Control Systems saw them reviewed here while searching online for something else entirely :) I've been meaning to get rid of the bit of bent wire I have used for years before it puts a hole in my sail. Looks like some interesting solutions, just wondering if anyone...

The Half Bird by Susan Smillie

If you like good writing, and you like reading about small boat journeys, just buy it. Superbly written and interesting tale about one woman who quits her job and just sails off in her nic 26. Originally intending to go round the uk, she turned left at Penzance instead and ended up in Greece :)...

New furling system for small cruiser

My bradwell 18 needs new standing rigging, and I’m thinking now is the time to replace its aging plastimo 406, the furling line is a bit thin for good control of the 130% genny, and is prone to jamming by coming off the drum and catching under the bolts that extend from the bottom of the drum...

Same day I found my willing griffin book I found two others in a different antiques place, both by bobroberts. Just finished this one and its excellent. Rusting chainplate nuts?

Noticed some rust and streaks on the nuts of my chainplates, What would cause this? I assumed these would all be stainless. Getting the mast down in a couple of weeks and will replace them then, but dont want similar down the line. I’m thinking if I replace one nut I should replace them all...

    Very willing griffin

Just picked up a copy of this, not read it yet, but been after it for a long time. Never been prepared to pay the very high prices being asked. (£50-£100) Ironically, I found this one in an antique shop near woodbridge, being sold for £2.50 :) :)

Westerlys, Changing the shape of the lozenge shaped doorways between sallon and forecabin, and the heads and hanging lockers?

Westerly longbow doors, any structural reason why I cannot square off the lozenge shape of the door ways to hang new rectangular doors on them? It would involve cutting up into the top curve and down into the bottom one. Thanks.

Mariner 6 outboard starter cord jammed

Not sure if there is a connection here, went to chack my engine today and discovered the outboard bracket in the down position. As it was high tide no problem but I have no idea how long its been like this, last checked it and ran it about 3 months ago. Not even sure how it happened, guessing a...

Yet another youtube channel, the most clueless, but most charming yet?

ok, so they use the horrible big bold dramatic titles, the filming and editing is really poor, especially the sound. They are dangerously clueless and disaster prone, its like watching a car crash. And yet, and yet….. they are irrepressiblycharming and optimistic, and they are going for it...

    Trestles

I have 3 masts I will be taking down, so need to get 8-10 trestles to support them. Would also be useful if they can take scaffold planks or similar to create a sanding/painting platform for the upper perts of the hull. Any suggestions as to what/where to source them at a good price? Or whatto...

Cored deck repair, epoxy or polyester resin?

I know epoxy is stronger, but is there any major reason not to use polyester when replacing sections of cored deck? Mainly because I already have some, so saves the expense of buying sufficient epoxy for the job :) but also as the boat was built from polyester resin it just seems to make sense...

How to reset a blue sea breaker?

On one of these? We were on my mates boat and the cabin lights stopped working. The red led doesnt light up when switch os in on position. I had wrongly assumed these were fused switchpanels, and the fuse would pop out of the rhs labelled insert, but apparently not. They are circuit breakers...
