    Radio problem

When I press to speak on my VHF it blanks the screen and does not transmit. The radio receives as normal and I have a feeling the set is not the problem. Could it be power supply or maybe poor aerial connection?

    Cheap impeller.

I found it difficult to get hold of my usual Jabsco replacement impeller locally, they are now around £30. So I thought I would take a punt on an Ebay item which was about half that price. What could go wrong, at least I could run the engine up before the spring? Anyway I went to fit it...

    Avon Dinghy £65

Avon Redstart, bought as a back up and never used. Number of tiny patches on underside would be better re-done, one valve leaks a bit ok with bung as per photo, so needs a bit of TLC. Looks lightly used otherwise: Need the space. Comes with Avon inflatable seat, alloy oars and...

    Breakfast in St Helier

Here is a red hot tip. For a couple of pounds more than the usual cooked breakfast down the caff, if you find yourself in Jersey, go instead to the Brasserie on the ground floor of De Gruchy store: Loads of attentive waiters, properly dressed, plus stylish surroundings and a cracking...

Estuary fishing from a small boat.

I plan to do some fishing from a rowing boat this winter, in the West Country. Might be Falmouth but probably on the River Tamar. I have my Grandad's old 8ft, cane pike rod but that is probably due retirement. More up to date is a glass 6 ft light boat rod which says 200 - 500g, with a...
