What is the method for removing the bearing pins on a Volvo Penta 290dp-e outdrive? I have removed the locking screws in case anyone was wondering.
I have tried a threaded bar arrangement to jack the pins out but getting nowhere. One pin has budged about 2mm and the other has not moved . I tried...
I have a macerator pump to discharge the toilet holding tank to the water (where legally permitted)
For a few occasions when pumping out the pump has been cutting out before the tank is empty due to overheating. This fault has deteriorated to the pump motor failing to turn when power is applied...
I apologise in advance if the following question has been answered elsewhere
Does a used pleasure boat imported from the EU to the UK require a new post construction assessment in accordance with the Recreational Craft Regulations?
The marina water was frozen over this afternoon so that must have been building all week. But the boats are not locked in place by ice.
There was however some ice (and some water) in the tank of my dehumidifier on the boat.
At home a sandcastle bucket left out had filled with rainwater had...
I heard someone in the marina was quoted (by a nearby marina) a budget of £1000 per engine for valve clearances check and adjustment.
The high cost was, apparently, explained as being due to the complex nature of the job including removal of rocker covers being complicated.
I think the marina...
The domestic water on the pontoons was turned off and the taps on the pedestals removed just before Christmas . I understand the water supply will not be reinstated until March.
To be fair there have occasionally been burst pipes in past years when the water supply has been left intact...
A friend has new to him 1999 built boat which he bought late last year . 700 hours on twin VM diesel (Mercruiser) 6 cylinder engines on outdrives. River use. One shared fuel tank.
Port engine had started to smoke a bit . White, maybe slightly grey, smoke.
Starboard engine is fine with no smoke...
Looking at battery chargers for the boat in case a fault I have proves to require a new charger.
Like many others my boat requires a charger with three outputs . (i)Starter , (ii)Domestic, (iii)Bow thruster
I do not use a inverter and have one fridge and a small 12Volt TV . I prefer to...
I just received my marina berthing renewal invitation which is due at the end of June and the price has gone up 2.5% since last year .
No partial refunds received due to the lockdown. The marina gates have never been locked to keyholders but government restrictions have effectively closed the...
How much energy should an on board battery charger be expected to consume if the batteries are fully charged and it is in float mode and nothing is switched on to consume any power (other than the charger) ?
Is 5.5kWh in a week more or less to be expected ?
I am guessing this could indicate...
I should explain ........I can walk to the boat from home - about half a mile.
The marina office is shut and only a few liveaboards in the marina and none moored near my boat.
I can get past the gate as I have a key.
Would a walk from home , along the footpath , into the marina down the pontoon...
Last year I investigated alternatives after a big price jump from ‘Y Yachtinsurance' . However the research resulted in only one insurer out of several I approached could offer a lower premium compared to ‘Y’.
This time Y have made a 5% inflationary increase.
I enquired with ‘SAGA’ which was...
If applying primer coat and anti foul coats a week apart
Do I leave the masking tape on throughout , until the antifoul has dried ?
Or is it best to remove the tape while the paint is still wet , requiring fresh masking for each coat ?
I want to use a primer/sealer coat as the existing antifoul is unknown . Also wet sanding has let to some grp showing through in patches and small areas but widespread over the hull . My local chandlery has Seajet 011 primer on the shelves .
Looking at the internet Seajet 011 has been replaced...
With diesel becoming no longer fashionable as a road vehicle fuel would it be wise to change sooner rather than later to sail before the future of motor boating ( with diesel engines) becomes no longer viable?
