Thanks for the reply @yotter. I have 60 Watts of solar that can keep up with my instruments but not the autohelm (on the rare occasions the sun shines).
Heading for Bangor tomorrow or Tuesday and will look for an automotive remote regulator there, doesn’t have to be Balmar.
Day 3 of my summer cruise and my Balmar alternator regulator has packed up.
I’ve run all the diagnostic tests in the manual and there is 0V going to the field windings.
If I jumper 12v to the field windings I get output from the alternator, so that is okay. Trouble is, no regulation.

Your correct. Not all Yanmar gearboxes can be put into astern when sailing. I've checked, mine can, but with the minor inconvenience that it might not disengage the clutch when going back to neutral. As mentioned, just start the engine in astern then select neutral.
I get a rumbling noise sailing, it's the prop spinning. Great, put the gearbox in reverse and it stops.
Get to 5kts and above and the propeller 'sings', or howls, like a banshee. Noticeable on deck but loud and very intrusive down below.
Think I'll have to save up my pennies for a folding or...
They now have experience, it won’t happen to them again. Someone should give them a link to this forum.
FWIW I set my rigging up on the hard, but don’t finish adjusting and locking the rigging screws until the boats afloat. The theory being there might be a change in hull shape twixt...
Most likely air being introduced on the suction side of the lift pump. Unlikely to be a leak on the +ve pressure side or the diesel return line. Any sign of any diesel weeping from any joint or seal?
Auto/Off/Manual switch connected to the Always On bus. Physically smaller, lower capacity electric pump in deepest part of the bilge where the big mother doesn't fit; manual switch to domestic bank. Manual pump as well.
I didn't pay silly money for an old iPad. I paid silly money for a new iPad about 12 years ago. I'll never buy an Apple product again.
Too many apps stop working properly when they update the OS. BBC News doesn't show images other than the banner headline. Predict Wind doesn't show the Wind...
I too have an old iPad mini, IOS 12.5.7. This week my Navionics subscription expired and when I tried to renew it was informed I need to update Navionics. Tried that, and then informed it requires IOS 13 or greater, rendering my iPad obsolete as far as Navionics are concerned.
I’ve always had...
The cable on mine is damaged close to the transducer. Corrosion has set in and destroyed the screen.
Can't seem to find anyone selling a new 205khz transducer, so if anyone's got one going spare I'm interested.
It’s “The boat”, as in telling the missus I’m just popping out to the boat. She’s a yacht when I’m describing her to anyone and I usually prefix her name with “yacht” when calling a marina or coastguard.
That look like an old Colnbrook furling system where the stay + foil rotates, not the foil around the static stay as in a modern system. If that is the case the wire must be the genoa halyard as using either the white/yellow or blue/white one would result in a disastrous wrap.
On my system, now...
Rhu marina daily pontoon rate: £3.55/m.
Rhu marina weekly pontoon rate: £21.30/m.
They also do a nice flexible deal that allows you 30 days spread over the summer at their monthly rate of £72/m.
I use the free Predict Wind app on my iPhone. I used to have it on my old iPad as well but it no longer works on IOS 12.5.7.
What about Navtex? I still check before setting off.
