I've used quite a few, mainly Garmins and Magellans.
I love my Garmin GPS72 and find it very intuitive with a good display size and lots of display options. It also has NMEA output through the power cable. It lasts about 12 hours on a set of batteries.
The implication from this story is that disaster happened quickly and that even the skipper was not aware of where he was in relation to the charted hazards. The original pictures showed the boat on the rocks by cliffs. It really sounds like a total lack of common sense, as well as lack of...
The other dirty word is "multhull", but the only one we've seen that we really like is the new Gemini 105Mc Cat.
It's a question of the shifting compromise and which combination is going to suit us best for the bext 5 years or so.
What are you doing over here Tom? Are you a closet MOBO or is it...
THe F6-7 bit is me coming from a sailing background and being stuck with changing weather, rather than just enjoying shorter weather windows and getting there faster. I'd certainly not choose to be out in that with a young family, but it's nice to know if a boat will handle the odd weather blip...
We are THIS close to changing to a MOBO ( 3 Hail Marys, I will go to church on Sunday and also whip myself until I bleed).
Brief:
One baby, one 2.5 year old, 2 adults, wanting to explore more with a shallower draft than 1.6m, getting cross channel to CIs and Brittany for holidays and doing it...
Re: Life jacket for kids
Setting an example is a great idea which we were discussing yesterday- how can we expect our kids to wear them if mum and dad don't? I must say I wear mine all the time now whilst underway ( why not?) At that age of child, there are lots of options for proper auto...
How about YBW Lights and dayshapes for \"other actions\"????
Following on from a previous post, can we come up with combinations of lights and dayshapes for "other" tasks and duties aboard a boat?
1- a ring/ball over a cylinder.....having a dump
2- 2 horizontal cylinders....do not disturb...
Cheers- both all round whites seem to be on a mast at the bow, ie vert, and there is a single all round red on the wheelhouse structure, higher than the bow whites.
Continuing the theme, I never knew that as well as green over white for trawling, there are additional lights for shooting nets...
Ferry gliding sideways is definately one of the most controlled ways of coming alongside as you have all the forces working against each other to provide stability- You could come up with all sorts of analogies involving hovering helicopters and stall speeds on planes, but it ultimately boils...
Turning the point around, what should be included extra on the syllabus (?sp) that would make it harder/ more worthy/ more appropriate for the title yachmaster.
The exam is based on a finite knowledge base- if you know it and can apply it, then you pass.
I agree with your figure, but that's this year with new standing rigging and prop etc, and that includes a marina berth. I suspect most years will come up with unexpected expenses, and therefore I'd settle on £200/ft LOA/year.
It all seemed worth it when the boat went back in the water and I...
