I would say that's a very sensible approach.

My advice would be to ditch it and fit a Chinese heater. I had no end of problems with my D4 and spent hundreds on it. I eventually got fed up and replaced it with a £100 Chinese unit, which has been completely trouble-free.

Much cheaper to learn how to handle your boat I would have thought.

I can't see swelling wood splitting them. They are way stronger than that. Sounds like someone who doesn't understand composite materials making up a wives tale to me.

No issues with mine. I can't see how frost will effect glass-filled nylon tbh.
