Ok gang asode from the J vs L wars has anyone got a recomendation?
Have you considered going electric if it suits your boat and type of usage? Prices have come down and they are now a viable alternative. Otherwise you can't beat a Jabsco preferably a larger size if you have room (even though in my view Lavac is a superior product!).

My own view is they Jabsco are easier to maintain and for whenyou have guests aboard more idiot proof....when it comes to your final point I suspect the answer is found in thensytlings of the bard of Woking who observed "the public wants what the public gets"
Lavac is easy to maintain as there is only one simple pump. For guests it is easy, shut the lid and pump. If they for get to shut the lid and pump it still emptys the bowl.
The lid seals can cause problems if damaged but it doesn't stop the pumping out.
My lavac is around 25 years old and still going well.
I find that the valves are a pain on a jabsco having used a lavac for years.
